Projects Progression

I would like to update you on what I’ve been doing for the past few months of 2017. As well as doing personal ventures, I have been illustrating 2 books – working on the sequel to ‘Superstar Kids’ and a new title called ‘The Adventurers’. I have been volunteering as an Artist at Paddington Arts, a local youth centre which I have been going to since I was a child so I am very happy to be giving back to them! AND a collaboration painting with Annette Fernando, this was for the 24 Hearts project in tribute for Grenfell Tower and in time for Carnival.

I have definitely been the busy bee, have a look below to find some of the recently finished pieces. I am very proud of what I have achieved so far, to see progression in my art style and way of working is very satisfying and I aim to keep this up!

July ID

Here is the new July ID! I’ve been meaning to draw an image like this for over a year, but I just didn’t have the means and understanding of how to portray it at the time. I had a brain blast recently and with the constant practice, it has really helped me to improve and create this piece 🌺. A tip for aspiring artists – keep copying poses and pictures you like to really grasp the style and then you’ll develop your own out of this. Find your niche!

This is inspired by Lianne La Havas’ song ‘Unstoppable’ and her album cover for ‘Blood’.

Pink Lars

Pink Lars from the recent Steven Universe hour special. Lars’ character has always been somewhat irritating to me in the series, but I absolutely loved seeing his moments of vulnerability where he struggled being himself. It just goes to show acceptance starts within and I always love that Steven Universe has these amazing life lessons to teach young children.

I wasn’t expecting Pink Lars to happen! But I absolutely loved it and it has solidified my love for Lars’ character, things are looking up for him.

April’s Finished Commissions

Here are just some the finished commissions from clients and my Fivesquid orders from this month alone! It’s been really busy for me because aside from doing these, I have also been illustrating two children’s books. Keep an eye out for more images from these next month!

Moana Cosplay Making

Currently near completion of creating my Moana cosplay from scratch! I wasn’t able to find her costume online that was made nicely and in my size, so I decided to take on the ongoing project of creating it myself and it has been a lot of fun! I created the top and belt with the help of my aunty who is embroidering the skirt, it looks so organic and tribal! Really true Moana’s heritage.

What’s nice about being an artist is that your craft and skills cross over all platforms 🙂

Final photos of the entire cosplay together will be up soon!

April ID 2017

This month’s new ID design. Bubbles and poofy buns which gives off a nice element of class I think! The challenge has been really fun so far, I really look forward to do drawing each month’s one. I also believe doing inktober last year really broke the ice to enable me to draw something everyday. Progression is key and I really feel and see my style progressing with this challenge 🙂

Feb ID 2017

My February ID design as part of my own personal art challenge – draw an ID every month throughout this year! I really love this one, I feel like I have successfully channelled myself through this illustration.

Sizwe Portrait Commission

Sizwe Portrait

A commissioned portrait I did for the gorgeous singer Sizwe from The Dahna Project. She gave me a lot of creative freedom to draw this and she was a lot of fun to draw because she’s very graceful and relaxed. I hope I caught her essence in this piece of her!

Have a wonderful day!
